Handymen are just that. Handy in many different situation. It’s important to know when it’s best to call a handyman and what kind of jobs they can handle so let’s take a look at when it’s a good time to call in handy man…
What is a handyman?
Unlike Heating Engineers or other trades that require training to be able to carry out certain jobs, a handyman does not.
The term ‘handyman’ can relate to many things, but for the purpose of this blog we would say that a handyman is someone that has skill or experience with many different types of manual labour. If you need someone for a quick job, like putting up shelves or a curtain rail, then a handyman is what you need. They can make ‘do it yourself’ into ‘do it for me’.
What jobs can a handyman handle?
It really depends on the amount of experience your handyman has, but we would say that anything you need being done around your house that you would call a ‘small’ job is something that handyman can help you with.
If you need a smaller room painted but don’t have the time or don’t think it is worth getting in touch with a painter and decorator, then a handyman can help you as this is a common skill needed for many home owners. If you ask people that use a handyman, it just makes more sense for them to ask someone who is skilled and might be available at short notice.
If you have items that you need to be built such as a smaller shed or patching up areas, then a handyman can also help you. It is important to note the size of the job because in most cases it is better to get in contact with a fully experienced carpenter for the bigger projects you might need. If it is a smaller job, and you don’t have the the time or the know-how to do something, then a handyman can help.
How else can a handyman help you?
Always wanted your TV mounted onto the wall, have some sleeves that need putting up or have flat pack furniture from somewhere like IKEA but don’t know where to start?
These are jobs that a handyman will excel at. It’s not as simple as just putting screws into a wall and a handyman will know just what is needed to make sure that your TV is safely secured with no damage to it or to your wall. This is especially important in rented properties.
